Enniskerry History Society Autumn 2011 Programme

Details of the 3-lecture Autumn 2011 programme of the Enniskerry History Society which meets under the guidance of its President, John Callan, are as follows.

  • Thursday October 13th: The History of Glencree and the Reformatory – Frank Tracey
  • Thursday November 10th: County Wicklow in 1911 – James Scannell
  • Thursday December 8th: Maps of North Wicklow and Some Stories of Enniskerry – Brian White.

All these lectures will take place in the Powerscourt Arms Hotel, at 8.30pm and all are welcome to attend – contribution €3.

    Is there any way to get a copy of the lectures for those of us who can’t attend on the day.

    Yes that would be nice. I’m not sure to be honest, I don’t think they have done that in the past. The Society is different to this website – I was just passing on the information about the talks – but maybe there could be a way to get something going. If I get to them, I’ll try to take notes so that I could give a summary at any rate!

    Frank Tracey spoke last night on Glencree, covering the Military Road, barracks and reformatory, German graveyard, Operation Shamrock and the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation. He has produced a small booklet which he sold after the talk; it has photos and some text covering all of these topics; it is in Spar and I assume can be obtained from Glencree Centre as well.
