After just over four years of running the site, the time has come to move on to pastures new. After starting rather tentatively in December 2010 with the aim of sharing some of the archives discovered while researching the village’s history, the website quickly transformed into a place where very enthusiastic and informed people from all over the world with an interest in the village could share their knowledge. Now there are over 25,000 views a year as well as comments and information sharing on articles written. Much of this was captured in a compilation of articles published last year, which is now sold out, but available on Google Books.
In practical terms, the website will remain live and all content remains available. The easiest way to browse is the Google Search or the Table of Contents in the right hand column. For the foreseeable future comments will continue to be moderated.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this website. I have marked all articles involving a contribution with the “Share Your History” tag and you just have to click and see how much of this website’s content is from others. A special thanks of course to Úna Wogan who has contributed so much to the site from the beginning, and thanks to the many others who have shared content and expertise, both in articles and in comments.
I’ll close with one of my favourite images. Everything has changed, but really nothing much has changed at all.
Bye for now,
Michael
All the best, Michael. This site has been a real pleasure.
Best wishes for the future Michael, you have done great work,
Regards, Andy Reid
Thank you Michael for your work in providing a forum for locals and expats in sharing their history and memories of growing up in Enniskerry, I know I looked forward to finding new information on old stories and sharing my memories. Tom Delaney(Tommy)
Michael, I’m very sorry to hear that you will not be continuing with the web-site. It has been extremely useful during my family history research, as you might say ‘putting flesh on the bones of my ancestors’. Still, may I wish you ‘all the best’ for the future. Things do change.
Warmest Regards
Roger (Sutton)
Thanks all for your kind comments and contributions over the years. Hopefully I will be able to return to it in the future. Still lots to do!
Michael Una Wogan was a champion when it came to her efforts in her work in researching for the site, and I am sure many people from around the world like myself who grew up in the Enniskerry area logged on to read the latest news but chose not to comment. Tom Delaney.
What a fantastic site this is, well done Michael. I am going to miss it. Is there any way it can be kept going in some form other than just leaving comments. Vincent Murphy.
Thanks Tom – yes Úna has been really brilliant and has contributed so much that wouldn’t have otherwise been considered. Thanks for your own contributions too which I always enjoyed.
Vincent, I always relished your emails coming in because it always had an unusual photo or view of the village. I am certainly open to the possibility of making some arrangement where new material can be posted. I am moving away so can’t do any more research myself, but if there is an appetite I’ll be glad to facilitate posting material that others wish to contribute.
The site isn’t going anywhere, so we have plenty of time to work it out!
Michael
