Greystones Festival of History Weekend 26-28 Sept
Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society, in association with the La Touche Legacy Committee, is hosting a Festival of History Weekend at Charlesland Golf and Country Club, Greystones, Friday 26 to Sunday 28 September.
The event will open on Friday afternoon at 4pm, with a celebration – through a discussion of shared literary links – of the longstanding connection between Greystones and Ards. Speakers will be Rosemary Raughter (GAHS) and Down local historian, Mark Thompson. The rest of the weekend will feature the Great War Roadshow, with Dr Myles Dungan, historians Turtle Bunbury, Dr Ciaran Wallace and John O’Keeffe, while a Wicklow perspective on the events of 1914-18 will be provided by Brendan Flynn. Lord Meath, Anne Ferris TD and WCC Cathaoirleach, Cllr Christopher Fox will offer personal reflections. In addition, on Saturday afternoon (27 September) there will be a guided walk of Greystones village, beginning at 2.30 from Ireton’s shop.
